Project Reflections
My favorite project this semester was definitely the advertisement spoof.
I really enjoyed creating the satirical descriptions, slogans, critiques, and the spoofs.
Working with photoshop was incredibly enriching and I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to understand the tools and how they work, especially making small changes on the Olay Makeup advertisements....
I might spend time on extra details next time, and polish things up.
I was really harsh on Olay.
I didn't really like illustrator, because I wasn't good enough to pay attention to detail and everything was choppy. It was also troublesome to attach everything.
I chose the theme of final to be: aspirations.
Anyways, here is my final.

Alien Horror Movie
This theatrical production was inspired by various movies I've watched.
I thought of an alien getting power from earth, looking for electricity and human bodies to recharge them so they could return to their extra terrestrial dominion and rule over more powerfully. I know its not that original, and I apologize.
I cast Sydney and Hannah (both very pretty) to play my confused and terrified girls. I was incredibly impressed by Sydney's acting... (especially the scream) and Hannah's furious one-liner.
The point of the story is that the alien tries tactics to find human hosts (to give it demonic energies).
It picks Ella to inhabit first, but ends up killing her and revealing its true form (me) to Courtney. Since inhabiting Ella doesnt work out (Ella is too weak to supply enough), the alien pleads to Courtney to teach it how to lure humans.
It return, the alien promises to resurrect Ella, and it does.
Of course, Ella is confused and begins to bash and abuse the bored looking alien, and the alien decides just to kill them both so that they supply it with energy of a whole person. (Ella and Courtney are both small women, they don't have enough each to satisfy the alien.)
The end. They die. The alien is bored out of its mind.

Corel Painting Snow Girl- Joanne Nam Inspired
This snow girl has changed:
Brown streaks in her hair
She looks more caucasian.
There is a pinker tint to her coat, and she has a green velvet texture to her gloves.
Velcro has been added to her coat.
Raincoat turned to regular coat
Dog is gray instead of white
There are leaves on tree
Scarf is green with red stripes instead of blue
Sky is a darker, bluer (turquoise) shade than before
Lips are bright red
Eyelashes are longer
Blushing, rosy cheeks
Thicker eyebrows
Birthmark on cheek (inspired by me)
Joanne Nam Artist Influence
This image captured my interest and admiration at an instant. It had a melancholy, surreal, and reflective style to it.
The reason I picked it was because the artist painted it with a certain beauty that I appreciate. It had a realistic quality to it.
It reflected a sadness that I am fascinated by.
It felt like a connection to a certain quiet aesthetic. The image reminded me of a girl stuck in a silent, cold world, disconnected from real life, and lamenting on her past, looking crest fallen.
Details:
Her eyes are rimmed with red and downcast, so it seems like she is either crying, in anguish, or looking at a dead animal.
Either she is in a state of confusion, wearing a raincoat while it is clearly finished snowing, or it is symbolism, wanting to protect her fragile body from the cruelty of the outside world with the wrong strategy.
The wolf/dog looks intelligent and alert, seeming to be her only friend.
Corel Apple
Corel Painter seems really cool.
Isn't it BOSS? I love apples. No actually I lied... I HATE apples. But this one looks good.

T-shit Stencils (I think I am a* Intellectual)
When my mother saw the design, she cringed, reminiscing on the time I was going through my intellectual phase. This phase happened around the time when most other girls got into cellphones, makeup, boys, and other teenage-girl stuff.
I was reading the dictionary per hour, per minute, per second, all day, all year. I had an incredibly pretentious air, reading what I considered sophisticated literature (which was, at the time, a book called "To Kill a Mockingbird") and expounding on National Geographic texts.
This phase ended when I met my super-genius friend, a boy, who I started hating and madly obsessing over. HE seemed like the most intelligent person I knew. To this day, I still hate him for upstaging me. It may be jealousy, or an infatuation. Or both.

Logo Spoof
Facebook induces a literal face palm* from me when I see pretty much everyone I know post their life's details on their wall.
I chose facebook to make a spoof because facebook has been criticized. According to bbc.com, "Digital rights groups and bloggers have heaped criticism on Facebook's changed privacy policy."
Facebook has been criticized because of privacy policy, bad exposre, child saftey mess-ups, and more.
I had fun with another one:
whee! colors are fun!
Its kind of like giving the paper a tan or something....

B5 Copycat Essay
Answer the following in a short essay format: What is the value of tracing images? When is it okay to copy something? When can it get you in trouble? Relate this to your work in this class.
Initially, my reaction to the NeoLucida was that of extreme opposition. However, as I read on, my feelings began to shift into those of ambivalence. The NeoLucida offers certain advantages that are useful to many professions, but has distinct drawbacks pertaining to it's usage in art.
Tracing: Ideally, an artist who specializes in painting and sketching should have true skill and the ability to gracefully mirror- or create from his own mind- a composition without the influence of any tracing tool. Art is a reflection of one self's thoughts, ideas, and views. Once anything is traced, I believe the value is lessened due to the lack of real effort being put into the work. To me, tracing seems like instant gratification.
Copying: There is not only one type of art. Photography, we must remember, is essentially capturing an image in the spur of a moment and in a way, copying because the image is not created, just captured. Using technology as an art form requires copies to be made all the time. As an example, in Photoshop, the artist can copy an image that they haven't created, but use it to enhance some bigger creation of their own that incorporates various outside influences.
Both: Copying and tracing are incredibly important to create things such as blue-prints, charts, and hyper-accurate copies used in architecture, science, math, and more, so this debate is not one-sided.
Getting in trouble: In spite of that, copying can get people in trouble if credit is not given when credit is due. Using copyrighted images can get you in trouble, just like if you don't include a bibliography in book reports. When you steal another's artwork and call it your own is unacceptable and lowly, and if this were the literary world, we would sue the dirty plagiarist.
There isn't a law against copying art for personal use, but reproducing it and selling under your own name is a crime.
NeoLucida:
I personally disagree with the use of tool in drawing or sketching, but I do agree that art is not a competition, but I wouldn't call tracing art either. I wouldn't use this tool for artistic reasons but I think it is an incredibly important and useful tool for other things, like tracing pictures of criminals.
NOTE: *I REALLY wanted to use the word "Furthermore" in this essay. Mr. Brandt, if you're reading this, can you assign us another one so I can use furthermore?
Thank you.
Your hopeful student,
Sruthi
(I sound insane don't I? Sorry! I'm kind of a logophile)
NOTE ABOUT THE NOTE: I shortened this essay as far as it could go to have you avoid pulling out your hair in frustration.

Pop-Art
Coming from a girl who only likes having pictures of herself on her phone because she gets tired of staring at other people's faces, a pop-art project is a fantastic way to channel her narcissism healthily.
My pop art is
seeing my face this many times is just.... exhilarating...
In the picture where I was sitting down, I look like a ostentatious Indian lady proudly displaying her large home to the guests...
Lady: *here, let me show you my incredibly neat house*
Male guest:*Damn, how long did we say we would visit her?*
Female guest: *I don't know- just be polite*
Lady: *And here is my Divan which I bought from Rajasthan just last week, and here is my swing where I swing when I'm watching SunTV(Irritating Indian Drama)
-5 HOURS LATER-
Lady: And this is my-
Female guest: *Smiles exasperatedly through clenched teeth*
Male guest: *KILL ME NOW!*

Olay Advertisement Satire
OLAY DEFINITY!
Yes, our favorite makeup brand, Olay, has come out with a new product:
"Definity", a tinted moisturizer.
If your anything like me, a girl who loves her skin, you may be inclined to use this product.
I recommend not. Here's why:

I say this without shame: I have an aversion to social media.
However, I admit, there are two sides to the introduction of social media into the average person's life
In ways, it could be helpful because of these reasons:
It can be the bane of your existence because of these reasons
I'm proud to say I have only been on Facebook for a week and 3 days. The sole purpose having been to stalk Daniel Radcliffe.
Enough said... anyways..... *look down below*
this is what I do when I see dumb twelve year olds post selfies....
However, I admit, there are two sides to the introduction of social media into the average person's life
In ways, it could be helpful because of these reasons:
- gets you closer to friends around the world
- gets you closer to people you would be nervous to talk to in person
- helps you hone your inherent anti-social behavior
It can be the bane of your existence because of these reasons
- distracts you while studying for your PhD
- steals your attention while spending time with friends
- makes you lose I.Q. points all while looking at a picture of this ....
